Do you have a favorite director? When you see that his/her films are coming out (or on TV), you make time to watch? My director crush is Sidney Pollack. Apart from the fact that there is a part of me that found him attractive (that cute intellectual Jewish guy look), I just LOVED his movies. How could you not - especially if you're into man/woman relationship movies? For example:
- The Way We Were
- Out of Africa
- Tootsie
- Bobby Deerfield
- Sabrina
- The Electric Horseman
- The Swimmer
- Absence of Malice
- Jeremiah Johnson
- They Shoot Horses Don't They?
- The Natural
He was so great....
There was an episode of the Directors about Sidney and then they showed the Natural - I just had to post.
Who is your favorite movie director?

I didn't know he directed Sabrina...I love that movie. My favorites are Joss Whedon, JJ Abrahms (though I'm still slightly mad at him for the finale of Alias Season 4 and the premiere and half of Alias Season 5) and George Lucas.
He spells it "Sydney" per most men with this name.
Three Days of the Condor - superb. Mr. Pollack and Mr. Redford apparently had great rapport as those movies were Mr. Pollack's best.
Some duds. Random Hearts? Sabrina? And Absence of Malice-panned without mercy by the critics, not a bad movie, but not a shining example of great direction either.
Mr. Pollack directed only a small portion of The Swimmer - the end of the film. Most of that film was directed by Frank Perry. Sydney Pollack's name does not even appear in the credits.
Incidentally, Sydney Pollack did not direct The Natural. That was directed by Barry Levinson. Wrong cute Jewish guy...
Re. "Sydney": in the UK, most men spell it Sidney. The only thing spelled "Sydney" is the large city in Australia that isn't the capital.
/WV: "plemiere": the first showing of a left-biased documentary. Contrast "premiere"
